White Christmas

Not being native to the Dallas area, Jay and I often miss the snow. Especially at Christmas time. I for one struggle with feeling the spirit while shopping in 70 degree weather.

But, this year was different and on Christmas Eve, we got about 6 hours of steady snow fall. It was wonderful! Just a prefect back drop to baking our santa goodies and wrapping the rest of the presents.

Christmas morning brought the beautiful sunshine and a blanket of white everywhere.
Liam's first Christmas couldn't have been better.
Just perfect!

Picture Perfect

With my Liam and Elle all dressed up for their School's Christmas show, I decided to take some great pictures. They're just the cutest in their Christmas formal wear.

As I posed the children and attempted to capture the perfect holiday shot, Liam and Elle had much different ideas. Finally I gave up.

I later reviewed my collection of photos and laughed aloud.
Sometimes the worst poses turn out to be the sweetest memories.

Our New Baby Boy

As it happened, my loving husband and I finally, after a week or so discussing it, decided to adopt a stray male lab mix a friend found. Unfortunate for us, after having the beautiful creature for a month, she just couldn’t let him go, so our adoption hopes ended.

That’s when we realized we really wanted to add a new dog to our home and we wanted to do it soon so this dog could be close to our aging old Wally and inherit some of his quirks, hopefully the good ones :).
So with that realization, we talked....
Getting the lab would’ve broken the no-shedding and smaller dog size rules we used to think we had. Jay, a now novel fisherman and boat owner, wanted a water dog he could take out often. Whereas me, the self declared “Not a big fan of Dogs”, wanted a trickster, someone I can teach to play frisbee and fetch, and many other possible things…. we both thought of our favorite dogs we know and knew… and both had the same breed in our top 3.

The beautiful, talented, super intelligent, amazingly trainable and agile…. Border Collie!
So for our Christmas present… we adopted this little guy.
Called “Dallas” by his breeders, 7 weeks old and the only one that didn't jump on us or nip when we started to play with the litter. I called him to me and Liam, he walked to us, sat down and stared into my eyes as I talked to him, as if he knew what I was saying. I immediately melted! We’re still deciding his name and are absolutely in love! Even our Elle, who seems to take after Mom a bit more in the dog arena is in love.
We’re sooo excited to teach this guy and look forward to watching him grow with the kids.

House Full

My kid brother, DJ made it to Dallas for a visit this month. An extra special visit as we got to meet his girlfriend Randee and her beautiful daughters Raelynn(age 4) and Noel(age 3).

Thanks to my wonderful in-laws we were able to hang out at the Lakehouse for a few of those days. Between adventurous swims in the cold and hours of trampoline jumping our guests really enjoyed themselves.
It was such a treat having a house full!

Cheeri-Oh!

Little Liam has decided he is fully capable of feeding himself. That can make quite the mess. Thankfully there are the ever wonderfully, fairly safe to eat, Cheerios!
Liam may very well turn into one, he eats them so often.

The other morning at breakfast, Liam had a bit of a mishap when trying to get a cheerio in his mouth. He of course paid no attention to the cheerio stuck to his nose.

The rest of us noticed and giggled... I said, "poor little guy, he's trying his best."
Elle then responded with, "that's ok Liam, now we match." as she stuck one of her cheerios to her nose.

What a wonderful big sister!

Rock-n and Roels-n

We finally had our good friends Alain and Mary over for dinner Friday.
My have the kids grown.

Our Elle and their Natalie are right at a year apart and our bubbling baby boys are right at 4mos apart. Raising our kidos in the same town is going to be a lot of fun. I am already dreaming about the family vacations we can have!

Pumpkin Guttin and Cuttin

Halloween should be Saturday every year! It was so nice having the whole day to celebrate the holiday. Kordell even made it down.

After making some cookies, as we would need our energy, we started the prep work on our subjects. Changing an ordinarily large orange squash into a frightful Jack O Lantern takes some concentration and diligence. After carefully removing the cranial cap, the painfully gruesome task of removing its innards was at hand. In our strategy, I would do the hard task of cutting and the kids would begin the gutting. Well all kids except Liam, as I was sure he would eat it, yuck!! Imagine those Diapers!

Kordell began pulling the slime from the first pumpkin, in doing so a piece flew from his hand to Elle’s neck. Unfortunately this set the stage for Elle and this experience. As she cried for help I cleaned her neck, and sent her back out to help her oldest brother. She reached her tiny hand into the pumpkins cavity, grabbed a handful of guts and threw it in the bowl… all the while looking as if she was being tortured, or about to hurl.

A real look of horror over came her, and as we urged her to keep going… she raised her hands up, walked to me and said clearly “Nope, I don’t do this. I just don’t do this!”

I laughed, “Oh really? This is fun, you can wash your hands when we’re done.”
“Nope,” she declared, “I can’t.”
The tears and panic began to set in, and my little all girl Elle Bug HAD to wash her hands immediately.

As understanding and nice as her older siblings Jules and Kordell are, they finished cleaning our pumpkins. Daddy and Elle shared theirs and designed quite a frightful character. Elle’s drawing and imagination have really taken off. Jules and Kordell decided to try something different this year and made a cat. Turned out Great!

If anything Elle was successfully scared in the cleaning process.

Muahahahaha!

Cookie Monster

Most Mom's know the trick of giving their little one something to munch on while they get some chores completed. I for one have mastered this technique.

Yesterday I gave Liam his favorite, Chips Ahoy. He got so excited and just made a mess, as you can see. He had me laughing histerically while snapping the photos.

I am really loving this little Man.. so much fun!

Yes the summers here are HOT and Yes we spend a lot of time inside.. but when October comes around, and brings with her the Autumn weather, it takes everything to keep us inside.

This weekend we spent a few hours at a local park having a picnic and feeding the ducks. This was Liam's first picnic.. after tasting some grass and enjoying some lunch, he really got into the ducks. In fact he said "Duck" 3 times... Little Guys chasing after big sis's!

It was a great weekend!

Funny Talk

There is never a dull moment in this house... here are some quirky quotes from last summer.

Elle with a tummy ache and a cup of warm peppermint tea I gave her seated on the couch talking to Julia quietly, legs crossed, "I don't really like this coffee, its a little bit spicy", followed it with a lick of her lips and smack.

Jay and I both went to get Liam from school Friday.
I let Jay get Liam, so he could see him light up to see us.
But instead he was asleep and when I walked in he was crying in Jays arms.
He looked at me, curled his lip and said "Mmmawmee"... made my DAY!
That was the 2nd time Friday, he said it when he wanted out of his bed that morning too.
Its now a regular word in his vocab, along with an attempt at Kitty and his solid Dadda.

Laying on the ground crawling around with Liam.
me: Ok Liam say "Mama"
Liam: "Dadda"
me: No Liam "Mama"
Liam: "Dadda"
This went on for about 3 minutes.

We have this neat sandwiches cutter, it cuts the bread in half, but shaped like a dinosaurs.
Elle is a HUGE dino fan so she likes it.
I made some grilled cheese for the girls and used it, while eating
"This one is Charles" Elle pointed to her sandwich.
"Oh thats nice, I am going to eat my dinosaur" I said.
"Ok, I will eat mine." says Elle.
"I think I'll start with his head" I added.
I bit the head of the dinosaur and chewed away.
Elle said "Ok put it back, that wasn't very nice."

Heading to school last week, I was loading up the kids in the truck. Elle pointed up at the phone lines running behind our home. "Oh look Mom, A Chicken!!" she said pointing to a perched fat brown bird.

While watching the Dallas Cowboys....
Elle "Those men are not cowboys."
Julia "Yes they are the Dallas Cowboys."
Elle "No, cause there are no horses or hats."

I Scream U Scream Liam Loves Ice Cream!

Sunday is kids eat free day at our local Dickey's BBQ, and boy do we love us some Dickey's! :)

Lately Liam has been very difficult at meal time. He now has 6 teeth, and seems to think that is all the qualifications needed to eat any and everything on our plates. With this new sense of confidence, he absolutely refuses to eat anything out of a jar or otherwise. Really tough!

Liam settled for a lunch of green beans and pieces of my baked potato. After eating their lunches it was time for the girls and Daddy to get their much anticipated Dickey’s ice cream cones. Liam tactfully began talking to Jay, clearly saying his favorite word “Dadda Dadda”, followed with his irresistible wave. This of course led to Jay picking up Liam and holding him in his lap.

As you can see… this was just a ploy.
Liam didn’t want his Daddy he wanted his Ice Cream.

Surprisingly, there were no tummy aches or brain freezes.
Just sweet happy baby Liam smiles.

Happy Birthday Bug

It’s official Elle is 3, Happy Birthday little princess!!
~

We took the easy way out and had her a little party at daycare.
She wanted it at a park and thankfully the school let us have the party outside by their playground.
It was sweet and fun.

The last 3 years have been more fun than we ever imagined.
Elle is a true gift, and we thank God for her everyday.

7 Months ~ Already??!!

Wow, what an amazing 7 months! Our little Liam is a true joy, already full of inquiry and wonder, never stops moving and has fully mastered his little walker.

Besides chasing his sisters Elle and Julia, his next favorite thing is chasing our cat Cuddles. Oddly, Cuddles seems to enjoy it, she’ll entice his interests and only move when he gets about a foot away. Its rather entertaining.

As for his development, he’s right on target and has started to sit on his own, is trying to feed himself and crawling backwards… we completely expect him to make forward progress any day now.

Liam has brought a new sweetness to our family, one we didn’t know was missing, and now one we couldn’t live without. He’s wonderful and we’re all in love with him.

LIFE’S GREAT!

Elle's Mustache

This weekend Jay, myself Elle and Liam went to Jay’s parents house for some grilled up hamburgers and other goodies. We were joined by Uncie Eric, ME and Uncle Mark.

Our little Elle talked the whole day, even before this point, and has really taken to the art of story telling. Really entertaining stuff!

Well at dinner the conversation went the way of Grandpa showing off the skill of whistling through his hands. (You know, the cup your hands together, seal if with your thumbs and blow, all the while fluttering the outside fingers to change the tone. Yeah, I cannot do it either.)

As Grandpa struggled to make the tone, Elle said, rather honestly,
“Oh My Daddy can do that,” almost shrugging off his show of talent.

She turned to Jay waiting for him to do it, all the while our whole table giggling.

Jay played the tune, and Elle smiled, letting Grandpa know Daddy did it best. Grandpa tried again, Elle turned to Daddy and said "do it again!"

Finally we all let her know that Grandpa had taught Daddy to whistle like that and one day her Daddy would teach her.

Jay confirmed this stating “Of Course I will teach you... when the time is right”… as if to imply it was a special art he would pass down only when she was ready.

Then our sweet Elle asked “You will teach me,
When I have a mustache?”

The next 5 minutes were spent with us all wiping the tears away as we gasped for air through the laughter and cursing it wasn’t caught on tape.

Daddy calmly explained to Elle why she wouldnt have a mustache, hopefully. :)

Cowgirls

The girls were lucky enough to go to the National Cowgirl Museum with their Grandma Nancy last weekend. As part of the exhibit they created these little films. We found them to be quite entertaining and wanted share. Watch for a ducking Julia in Elle's first movie, funny!

Chocolates and a Gun.

A couple of weeks ago, Jay and I were watching the show Lost, and in the show, one of the characters received a box of chocolates with a gun underneath the candy. I looked at Jay jokingly and said, "that's what I want for Valentines Day"...

Well on Saturday, Jay and I exchanged presents, and well we werent suppose to get each other anything expensive. So I gave Jay a bag of his favorite candy and Jay gave me a heart shaped box of chocolates. I opened the box and well, inside with the candy was a Walther P22.
Its the perfect gift!
I have the best husband by far!

Welcome Liam

William "Liam" Jason Dugan
Born Tuesday January 27th, 2009
Weighing 7lbs 14oz

Still having 1 week and 5 days to go before my due date and adding that with the fact that Elle was 6 days late, on Tuesday, when it was icy and cold, I happily worked from home and even kept little Elle here expecting the schools and daycares to close early.

But as it seems, life had different plans for me... at 11:15 I sneezed, and heard a loud pop from my belly. It was so surprising. I sat there wondering what it could have been.
... then about 5 minutes later.... water...
Oh My - My water broke!! My heart started to pound... wait, I thought, am I sure?
Is that what it was?? Like it was possibly something else... and of course like most things, it was not like the movies or shows, as there was no need for me to scream in pain or to save Elle and our pets from drowning in my leaking water.

But, it was real... my water broke.... I looked at the time and thought 11:27am - the clock's started, knowing full well he would have to be here within 24 hours, or it was a c-section for sure. Interesting the things we think when in these types of situations.

I stood up, walked to the bedroom, now trembling in all the excitement and fear, called my perfect husband. It only took me saying, "yes I am sure", "no this is not a joke " a couple of times before he was on his way home. I then walked back to the living room and asked my Elle Bug if she was ready to meet her brother, and told her that we needed to get dressed (both still in our Jammie's). She dressed right away and I started to pack the few last things for the hospital.
As I walked around the house, cautiously, Elle would run to me and say, "Can I take my purse to meet the Baby Brother?" or "Can I where these shoes to meet Baby Brother?"..... she was so sweet and such a delight. Truly excited!

Daddy made it home despite all the ice and we headed to hospital Elle, Jay and I. We of course made it before Mimi or Grandpa, who were to watch our Elle. I changed to my gown and Elle whispered and sat quietly in the room, waiting. I really think that she thought a baby was going to brought in to us at any moment. She kept telling us all to "shhhh", nicely of course but forcing everyone to whisper.

Soon there after Julia, Grandpa and Mimi arrived, everyone went the waiting room and Jay and I started to time our now started contractions. Elle arrived within an hour of making it to the hospital, so everyone, of course expected this birth to go as fast.... and well... it wasn't. My contractions weren't severe and I was only to about 4 cm at 2:30. Things were happening but slowly. I wasn't yet mentally prepared, I thought I had time, had been sick and swollen for days and was just tired... and feeling the strain of being trapped in bed... soooo the Dr started a light dose of pitocin. This alone was always a huge fear for me, as I did not want to need pain medication. I always believed Kordell's birth would have gone better without the pain medication, and in return he would be normal... so as with Julia and Elle, I was going to have this little boy without pain relief. Everyone always told me that being induced was worse than any natural labor. And perhaps by the power of suggestion, appeared to be the case.

I spent the next 2 hours, in hard hard labor, and well just in overall pain. I know.. its called labor for a reason, but I definitely saved the hardest for last. Despite the stress and pain, I made it and birthed our perfect son Liam at 5:38pm, 100% natural. Yeah me!! Poor Jay looked wiped out and I could never ever have wished for a better man to be at my side during the birth of our child. I am so blessed.

Liam and I were sent home Thursday afternoon and I am so happy to be home!
We are so blessed and Liam is true and pure joy for us!
